OBD II Fault Code P1406 :

Description of Fault code P1406

EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) COOLER BYPASS CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT OVERHEAT

Possible failuer P1406

  • EGR Cooler Bypass valve actuator (Short to power, Electromagnetic Solenoid short)
  • EGR Cooler Bypass valve actuator control harness (Short to power between Engine Control Module (ECM) and actuator)
  • Engine Control Module (ECM) internal diagnostic circuit failure
  • High temperature of Engine Control Module (ECM)

Diagnostic Procedure using AutoHex II Scan Tool

  • The overheat (more than 150°C) of the EGR Cooler Bypass valve actuator control circuit is detected for a set period of time.

Test Conditions using AutoHex tester

  • Continuously

Clear Fault codes Conditions

  • The overheat (more than 150°C) of the EGR Cooler Bypass valve actuator control circuit is detected for a set period of time.

MIL Status

  • Check Engine Light ON
